Can I call you?

When you go online you need to be ready to handle these situations.

Think through things before they happen.

Ask yourslf   What if?

Do What If's with your friends when you hear about something happening to someone else. You may be confronted with a similiar someday.

People who have a plan are more successful, not just in dangerous situations but in their personal life, school, and in their careers.
Here are a few What If's and some things to think about to get you started...

Do you have a pic?
Be honest,  thats one of the first things that a new online or texting friend asks. Before you answer that and possibly send a picture, ask yourself the following:
Do I know who is asking me to send it?
Why do they want it?
Are my parents okay with me sending pictures via the Internet of from my phone?
If so, and you are going to send one, is the picture one that I am comfortable with anyone seeing?

LMIRL (Lets me in Real Life)
This is one that anyone or any age needs to think through.
Who is is this person and why do they want to meet me in person?
Where do they want to meet?
What do I really know about them?  Not just what is posted on their social network page or what they have told me,  can I verfiy it somehow?

Are they okay with meeting in public and you having your parents or another adult coming along?
If they aren't, its time to move on without meeting them.

Never, never, never meet anyone for the first time without your parents permission and being accompanied by them or someone they approve of!!!

Here are some basic Internet and Cell phone safety tips

Never post personal information online or send it to someone you don't know.  This includes things like you address, phone number, birthdate, where you work, etc.

Don't post or send any pictures or anything personal without your parents knowledge and permission.  You can't trust what other people will do with it once they have it.  Remember, if you would be embarrased for others to see it, you shouldn't send it.

Never meet anyone in person for the first time without your parents permission and have them or someone they approve of accompany you.

Report it when someone solicits you for something sexual or trys to get you to send something inappropriate.  You can do so by clicking here or calling 1-800-843-5678.
